Kaleidoscope Eyes
by
Debra Monte-Wetzel

Shamelessly I hold out to you

My transparent heart.

Yet, still you do not see.

So long I have carried you with me

To the peaks of mountains

And the beach at sunset

On Sundays in autumn

Or hot nights in July.

You are there with me often

Yet still you do not see.

In the tossing of the blankets

Or the aching of my body

With my arms outstretched to hold you.

Next time, when we meet

Look closely

Look deep

Look hard.

And see what I see.
